Michael Berger is the head of Insure AI at Munich Re. In this role, he leads a team of research scientists and business developers to structure insurance-backed performance guarantees for AI risks. His team structures insurance-backed performance guarantees around risks of machine learning (ML) implementations. Its core product is an insurance backed performance guarantee for ML based services. This allows AI start-ups to issue product warranties as part of their SLA to guarantee that the error rate of the ML service will be below a guaranteed threshold. In case the error rate exceeds the threshold, the clients of the start-up receive a compensation. This solution creates a USP for the start-up's service as it creates a signal of trust in the product's performance and consequently helps the start-up to win more customers and grow its revenue.
